Modern LED TVs work like a lamp behind a stained-glass window. The LCD panel creates the image (the window), but strips of white LEDs behind it (the lamp) make it visible. If those LEDs burn out, you get no picture.

1. Turn on the TV.
2. Shine a dedicated torch/flashlight angled close against the screen.
